BBC 4 kick off October with a brand new series ‘The Sound And The Fury’.

The three part exploration of modern music looks at the shift between the sound and language of works from some the most renowned composer in history including; Mozart, Bramhs and Stravinsky. The series transcends many genres as it moves through the birth of Jazz in 1920’s New York and the changes in modern art during the First World War.

The state control of music throughout the post-war 1930’s by totalitarian regime’s in Germany with bans on music written by Jews, African-Americans is examined through to the 1940’s and the experimentation with avant-garde style.

Culminating with the increasingly popular melodies and rhythm of 1950’s and the pull of classical music on a more global audience.
