Elvis Presley a.k.a “The King” was one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th Century and continues to inspire musicians and performers 36 years after his death. Selling over 2 billion records he certainly has his name firmly cemented in the history books. Elvis was the leading figure of rock and roll after a series of network television appearances and chart-topping records such as ‘Hound Dog’ and ‘Jailhouse Rock’. As well as music he was also a Hollywood movie star making his film debut in 1956 for the film ‘Love me Tender’.
Elvis is the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music. He was nominated for 14 Grammys and won three, receiving the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36. John Lennon once said “Before Elvis there was nothing”, he could well have been right.
