The infamous American R&B duo Ike & Tina Turner are credited to have been a pioneering force in the development of soul music throughout the 60s and 70s. Formed of a husband and wife team, the ensemble began as an offshoot of Ike’s band The Kings of Rhythm, subsequently becoming The Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Together, they spawned multiple hit singles until up until the early 1970s beginning with their U.S R&B #2 single ‘A Fool In Love’. The group was nominated for 3 Grammy awards during their 16 year run, winning one of these for ‘Proud Mary’ in 1971. Their energetic live performances filled with dance numbers were said to have only been matched by the likes of James Brown and The Famous Flames.
