In the 1960’s Robert Moog changed the face of modern electronic music with the invention of the Moog synthesizer. The Moog produces a highly distinctive and augmented keyboard sound through the use of hand made circuits and specialised components.

The Moog is used in countless pieces of modern music however it’s original rise to the forefront of electronic instruments was in Wendy Carlos’ 1968 track ‘Switched-On Bach’. There are earlier uses of keyboards which produce a similar sound to the Moog keyboard.

To pay homage to Robert Moog and his pioneering of modern music a 2004 documentary film dedicated to his life’s work is being shown on Sky Arts 1 on Monday 15th of July at 7.30pm.
