Did You Know?
Did you know, Bobby’s first paid gig was on Valentine’s Day 1959. He and his band drove 45 miles in freezing conditions in a heatless car to play on a makeshift stage made of pushed together benches. Halfway during their set, the benches moved apart and the amps smashed onto the floor. However, even after all that drama, Vee and his band still made $60!
Bobby Vee
Bobby Vee is a highly influential artist that has had immense success throughout his career, achieving 38 ‘Hot 100’ chart hits, 10 of which hit the Top 20. Unfortunately, Vee’s career didn’t start out on such a high note, on the ‘Day that Music Died’, Vee (at just age 15) was asked to fill in for Buddy Holly and his band that so tragically died in a plane crash. However from this tragedy, the performance was a huge success and a star was born. Later in his career, Vee played tribute to Holly with the album titled ‘I Remember Buddy Holly’, a fitting gesture.
