ABOUT Billy Eckstine
King of swing Billy ‘Mr. B’ Eckstine was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1914. After abandoning a football career following a broken collar bone, Eckstine went on to work with some of the biggest names in jazz, R&B and soul. He was widely respected as a band leader, trumpet player and vocalist. He was awarded the ‘Grammy Hall of Fame’ award in 1999.
