ABOUT

Born in 1911 in Kansas, Stanley Newcomb “Stan” Kenton was a highly influential, but often controversial American jazz musician. He led a succession of creative, original bands that put weight on harmony and emotion. This caused debate among listeners of the genre because of the way Stan Kenton’s bands often stood out from other music of the time. Originally releasing music on Decca, Kenton went on to record for Capitol from 1941 to 1968 and during this time he conducted numerous clinics and lectures for new musicians. This insured that his unique musical style would become an influence for generations.
