ABOUT ‘Anatomy of a Murder’

This is an American court-case drama film of 1959. It was directed by Otto Preminger and adapted by Wendell Mayes from the best-selling novel of the same name, which was written by Michigan Supreme Court Justice John D. Voelker. Voelker based the novel on a 1952 murder case in which he was the defense attorney. It is to be said that it is one of mainstream Hollywood’s first films to address sex and rape in graphic terms. It also includes one of Saul Bass’ most celebrated title sequences and a musical score by Duke Ellington (who plays a character called Pie-Eye in the film).
