He is particularly interesting as an artists as he was the first artist, signed to Columbia, to use voices and vocal arranging as part of the instrumentation, for instance, female voices double with trumpets, high saxes or clarinets; male voices with trombones or saxes in low register. This unusual technique is what made Conniff so successful allowing him to continually sell records such as this one even after his death.
