Born in Indianapolis in 1894, Jan Garber had his own band by the time he was 21. During his 1920s-1930s heyday he was known as ‘The Idol of the Airwaves’. He played with a few arrangements until the Depression in the 1930s when he began producing successful big band music releasing with Victor Records.

Between the years of 1942 and 1945 Jan Garber surprised the music world by switching his style to swing music. This foray didn’t last long, however, and Garber reverted back to his previous style in 1945.
