ABOUT
Born in Ukraine, Arthur Tracy emigrated to the United States in 1906 with his family. Settling in Philadelphia, Arthur began performing in vaudeville theatre which led him to move to New York in 1924. When William Paley offered Tracey a show on CBS radio, he adopted the moniker ‘The Street Singer’ to avoid embarrassing his family in the event that the show was unsuccessful. Fortunately the radio show was a success and listeners demanded to know the identity of The Street Singer. Following his radio debut, Arthur Tracy appeared in Hollywood film ‘The Big Broadcast’. He continued to appear in film and recorded many interpretations of popular songs.
